The survey says 7 out of 10. It doesn't say why.

Scales and scores show WHAT your audience thinks — never why. Why the why lives in in-depth interviews, and how AI finally makes them scalable.

Approval sits at 7 out of 10, the score has held steady since last quarter, the dashboard is green. And still, after the meeting, no one knows what to do next. That's not the survey's fault — it does exactly what it can. It's about what it fundamentally cannot do.

What the scale leaves out

A scale compresses a decision into a single number — and throws away exactly the information you need for the next decision:

  • “Price is fine” — but not whether that's compromise, habit, or real willingness to pay.
  • “I'd recommend it” — but not in which situation, or in whose words.
  • A drop-off in the funnel — but not whether confusion, distrust, or simply a better offer is behind it.

On top of that, a quiet measurement error: scales get answered socially. A 5 feels rude, so it becomes a 7 — and the difference between genuine enthusiasm and polite indifference disappears into the same number.

The why lives in the conversation

In an in-depth interview, something happens that no scale can deliver: someone describes a concrete situation, and the first answer is met with a follow-up. The reason only shows up behind the first answer.

I ticked 7 because 5 felt kind of mean. Honestly, I haven't used it in weeks.

From an AI-led in-depth interview

That's exactly why in-depth interviews were always the tool for the important decisions — and exactly why they were done so rarely: recruiting, moderating, transcribing, analyzing. Weeks of effort for a handful of conversations.

AI makes the why scalable

AI-led interviews change the math. What works in practice:

  • Hundreds of interviews in parallel instead of eight a week — by link, your own pool, or a panel.
  • In German and English, with real probing — audibly led by a Voice Agent if you want.
  • Evidence by default: every statement in the analysis stays anchored to the original quote.

The scale keeps its place: it shows you WHERE to look. But the decision itself deserves the why — and that's in the conversations, not in the distribution.
